The first bibliophile auction of books and old prints.

The sentiment towards unusual and unique items manifests itself in various gathering and collecting. Some collect old porcelain, others - antique cars, jewelery, paintings, of course we are interested in an antique book. There are still rare and unusual objects on the market, or also rare euphemisms. As we know, the Polish collector's book market has shown that, although we are far from the West, books have not only sentimental value, but also measured in money, i.e. material and even investment value. The valuation of some very rare objects is sometimes difficult not only for prospective buyers but also for professional sellers. The value is influenced by many factors, ranging from the rarity or state of preservation of the book, to provenance. Without delving too much into this very extensive thread, one can go as far as to the bold thesis that only the market is the true measure of the real value of a book - not only from the pre-war period, after all, there are many later books that were also appreciated by this mechanism. The market is governed by the law of supply and demand.

If you've ever wondered how to measure such a value, the answer is simple: the price will be determined by an auction in which bidders successively break through to the final amount, similar to the art market. The book should also be assessed in this aspect. Moreover, it is nothing new.

The first Polish book auctions took place in the middle of the 17th century in Gdańsk, which was then the main trading center of Poland, in the 18th century auctions of books (both own and entrusted for sale) were organized in Warsaw by Michał Gröll, His Majesty's bibliopoly and city auctioneer Of Warsaw.

Today, book auctions are organized all over the world, the lead here is the famous auction houses, and the obtained selling prices of some old prints or books knock you on your knees. Until recently, the only form of auction sale were stationary auctions, the so-called hammer, where the auctioneer accepted and announced to the public subsequent price increments. In the era of fast media, globalization, online auctions are an alternative, where you can participate in any place on earth, without leaving your office or home, in a park on a bench or in a shopping mall, if you prefer. You can use a computer, mobile or tablet.

The Antiquarian Bookstore Sobieski informs that the 1st Auction of books and antique books organized with our participation will be held on 1.11.2017 - 2.12.2017 on the professional auction website OneBid, known to you from, among others, painting and handicraft auctions.

On the website www.onebid.pl, you can place orders from November 1, 2017 or participate in the online auction on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 10.00.

You can also participate in the auction in a traditional way, by sending a written order by e-mail or by traditional mail no later than 24 hours. before the online bidding begins. The organizers are not responsible for the proper execution of written orders that came after this date.

According to the auction system, orders placed via the onebid.pl portal and by traditional mail will be taken into account during the auction and will immediately appear on the screen. The sum obtained in this way will constitute the starting price for the online auction, in the event of several orders for one item, the bidding will start from the penultimate limit increased by one increment.

The auction catalog included 276 items from 10 different fields. We tried to describe the condition of all auction objects very precisely. Each volume has been meticulously inspected and described.

The categories correspond to your current interests and needs.

In each of them there are several more expensive, more valuable and rarer books, but there are also small, pleasant trinkets. Everyone should find something for themselves.
