The avant-garde Elephant Trabalski by Julian Tuwim in the first book edition.
Today, in the "best of the best" section, we present a well-known and popular story about the great forgetful one: Juljan Tuwim's "Trabalski Elephant".
The first edition that appeared in Wyd. J. Przeworski in 1937, considered very rare today, along with "Locomotive" and "Winnie the Pooh", it is one of the most sought-after pre-war children's books on the Polish bibliophile market.
The book was wonderfully illustrated by Janina Jankowska, known mainly from illustrations to books by Zofia Rogoszówna.
It is a classic resistant to the passage of time, and at the same time a fairy tale considered avant-garde!
"In the first decades of the twentieth century, several poets for children with undoubted talent appeared in Poland, e.g. Janina Porazińska (1888-1971), Hanna Januszewska (1905-1980) or Ewa Szelburg-Zarembina (1899-1966), as well as poetry For the youngest, authors such as Władysław Broniewski, Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński, Stanisław Młodożeniec and above all Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna and Józef Czechowicz wrote for the youngest. Although the artistic level of many texts was high, the writers tried to renew or enrich earlier trends rather than radically change them: they were inclined to for inspiration by folklore (Porazińska, Januszewska) and for an emotional and subjective lyrical vision (Czechowicz, Iłłakowiczówna). Although in the works of Czechowicz, and probably also Iłłakowiczówna, there are elements of surrealist poetics, they are not deep enough to be talk about a real experiment of avant-garde in children's poetry.
In this context, the poetry of Julian Tuwim (and immediately after that of Jan Brzechwa) was, for many reasons, a unique phenomenon. Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań (Lee 2007), as well as a book by Anna Boguszewska (2013) .258 Monika Wozniak literary, a real revolution in the field of creativity for the youngest and for over seventy years absolutely dominated the scene of Polish children's poetry, remaining unquestioned and it seems that the everlasting bestseller for the next generations of Polish children.
